No chance of scurvy for them!

The thing that intrigues me about today's strip actually isn't anything about the content, which I find kind of cute, to be honest (maybe it's because it's one of those "Nobody's wrong or bad in this situation!" strips and both Nulla and Barfo are smiling in the top panel). It's the fact that the submitter is from Florida. Does she frequently send people fruit, then hear from them that they had just bought a ton of fruit themselves?

And holy crow, how much citrus did Nulla and Barfo buy? Is that just for the two of them? Do they eat only oranges and grapefruit?

Well, I have something to say about the content. In whose world does this happen "every time"? If Al means that, every time you're one of his 90-year-old readers and you send fruit to your 65-year-old kids back in Snowburg, it just so happens that they have already gone to the store for mountains of fruit, then he's telling it from the wrong perspective, isn't he?

The way I'm reading this, he's saying that every time you buy fruit at the store someone else has already mailed you some - and that's just insane. It's not just that it manifestly doesn't happen every time, it's that it happens no times.

Do people who live in Florida really still send their relatives citrus fruit? Are there still people who don't know that all types of fruit are now available all over the country?

And who in the world ever used the phrase "citrus fruit"? If it's citrus, it's fruit. Just like those people who say "puppy dog" or "tuna fish."
